On Lazy Recapitulation
Original Source ↗A little about lazy recapitulation. We still need energy for dreams; no energy, no dreams. We gather courage for a very long time to engage in it (recapitulation), as if preparing for battle. And many turn away from the path even before it begins. The years behind us sow uncertainty, and hence an unwillingness to engage in something 'doomed' to failure. We will take a slightly different path. We do not need boxes, dark rooms, proud solitude, and endless lists of names and events.
Before sleep, assume a comfortable position and re-examine the past day from 'tail' to 'head', and possibly recall dreams remembered from the previous night (incidentally, sometimes, when you approach the moment of waking at the end of recapitulation, dreams you hadn't remembered before come back to you). For each event, make a characteristic head movement with breathing. Turn your head from right to left, inhaling, then return your head to a straight position and exhale.
After recapitulating the day, recapitulate any plot that immediately surfaced in your mind. If several surfaced, recapitulate several. If no plot surfaces, there's no need to torment yourself trying to remember anything. Everything should be enjoyable. Simply, easily, without an unpleasant residue.
